Samsung losing lawsuit for continuous three times

January 6th news, according to media reports, recently, a Milan court rejected Samsung Electronics application about banning Apple iPhone4S sold in Italy, which is Samsung’s third time hit embargo fiasco in Europe.

According to Italian media reported on January 5, a Milan court ruling patent litigation of first instance recently, rejected the Samsung’s application on ban iPhone4S sell in Italy. Within the battle between Apple and Samsung, Samsung has been three consecutive defeat in Europe. Previously, France and the Netherlands’ court have rejected a similar request from Samsung in October and December, 2011.

In patent litigation and banning war, Apple is leading temporarily. In Germany, Australia and Netherlands, the courts have issued a ban on Samsung Tablet PC orders. As well known that the embargo decree is just a part of Apple and Samsung patent lawsuit, both sides want to upset with each other’s product marketing plan through the ban, so as to win their own initiative. But the industry also pointed out that patent litigation is required the lengthy court procedures to complete ultimately, the two sides will also pay the cost of time and money.

Currently, Samsung and Apple’s patent litigation battle has burned to a dozen countries on four continents and regions.

Intel cut the Sandy Bridge platform processor price

December 22th news, news from notebook manufacturers, recently, Intel has notified its partners that it plans to cut the current price of Sandy Bridge processor platform, part of the Core i3, i5 series processors, the price drop will reach 10 % -15%.

Intel plans to release the next generation of Ivy Bridge platform processors in April next year, so they want to cut prices to stimulate demand, including Lenovo, Asus and Acer and other notebook manufacturers cut the notebook model’s price lowered to $659 which equipped with Core i5-2430 processor, Core i3 notebook model price lowered to NT $13,000 yuan or less.

From the news, notebook manufacturers will be in January next year with the first generation of Core i5 processors Ultrabook laptop price down to $799-899, to clear inventory, avoid the model affect the demand for the next generation of Ultrabook.

Based on 22nm process platform for next-generation Ivy Bridge processor includes Core i5-3450, Core i7-3370, the price is expected to $184-332, only higher $10-15 than part of the existing Intel’s processor. If Intel can not quickly remove the remaining inventory of Sandy Bridge processor, then it will trouble for Intel transition to a new platform.

Amazon creates KDP Select Fund to award authors and publishers

December 8th evening news, Amazon announced that it has created a fund called “KDP Select”, as a new way for independent writers and publishers benefit from it.

Amazon said that if KDP writers or publishers offer their books to the Kindle Store exclusive at least 90 days, they can get some KDP Select Fund. The fund size of approximately $6 million per year.

Amazon put these books into “Kindle Owners’ Lending Library” services stacks. KOLL service will  aim at Amazon Gold members-Prime, they can borrow online once a month.

Based on the program, independent writers or publishers can provide books to Amazon, which can issue of books alone, or a set of books.

Amazon is expected that next year KDP Select fund will be at least $6 million, now Amazon has been allocated for the December 2011 with $ 500,000.

Amazon also said that independent authors or publishers’ provide books also continue to open for sale to the Kindle Store users, and get the regular royalties.
